Veterinarian
Dr. Elise Mauer
I grew up in a small college town in Indiana surrounded by corn fields. I had a passion for animals from a young age and spent most of my time riding horses, exploring the outdoors, or spending time with the family pets. My love of veterinary medicine blossomed in high school when I worked for my local veterinarian. Being able to help the animals I loved so much was such a fulfilling experience and I wanted to make that my career.
I went to Purdue University for both undergraduate and veterinary school. I then went on to work at a busy multi-doctor small animal clinic outside of Indianapolis, Indiana for 3 years. After years of cold winters, zero-degree temperatures, and ice storms, I decided to look for warmer weather. I visited Charleston, South Carolina, and fell in love.
In my free time, I love to ride my horse Rumor, walk my dogs Chat, Mack, and Finn, kayak, walk on the beach, or just explore Charleston and everything the lowcountry has to offer. I also have two long-haired cats that are great couch companions.
I truly love being a veterinarian and I particularly enjoy soft tissue surgery, wound management, and strengthening the human-animal bond.
